First a disclaimer: I only cross drill bolt heads for safety wiring if there is no other suitable option.

Here a couple of pics of my cross drilling fixture for -3 AN bolts:

I bought a jig to do this. No way would I try without it.

A fixture is very nice, but it can be done easy enough with a portable vice, good prick and center punches, and a drill press.

Drilled a whole lot of metric bolts for motorcycles back in the 80's. Drilled these socket heads just last week.
