ELT GPS

Installing a 406. Have GPS antenna for EFIS and one for ADSB. Can I split the signal and feed the ELT or do I need another antenna?

Which ELT model?

Most ELT’s would normally receive its GPS signal from a GPS unit via RS-232, such as your EFIS, so a separate antenna for that input is not needed. But you do need to provide a shielded wire to connect the GPS output to the ELT.

There should be drawing included with your ELT that shows which pin that signal is wired to.

I think I’m out of open 232’s. Can I split the signal before it goes to the EFIS?

You can attach two RS-232 inputs to one RS-232 output, but not vice versa. The complication is that the two input devices must be able to accept the same message format. Check the formats before you make the connections.
