Simple Wash job?

My project has been languishing in a storage unit for years now. It's back in action and progress is being made, but there are YEARS of simple dust and schmutz layered on parts of it. Any issues with doing a little soap and water rinse of Emp. parts and Wings (interior and exterior) so that it looks a little happier? Some is primed and some is bare (don't go there!) but none is actually painted.

Aluminum and water are friends, right?

If it is rainwater or other water with low dissolved solids, yes water and aluminum are ok as visitors. Water dissolves lots of things and becomes conductive. Even RO water can have dissolved gasses making it ionic.

I get neutralized RO water from the grocery store and put it in a garden sprayer. You can get pH indicator strips to be really sure. Using a mild detergent suitable for aluminum could be used for small areas at a time without drowning the work and leaving puddles etc inside. Definitely not a strong alkali cleaner.

Just a thought . . . .
