What did you do with your RV this weekend (Oct 2-3, 2021)?

100 hours

Clicked past the somewhat arbitrary 100 hour milestone this weekend and was looking through the log:

  • First flight: 17 June 2020.
  • Fixed the initial squawks: no IAS on first flight (!), fuel seep at red cube, intermittent flap position sensor, failed Andair fuel pump (at 3h!)
  • No heavy wing!
  • Successful engine break-in by 20 hrs.
  • Full acro sequences at the end of Phase 1 (loops, rolls, spins, snap rolls, hammerheads, split-s, Immelmanns) to really check the quality of the build
  • 12 week down time at the paint shop (painful withdrawal!)
  • First full condition inspection.
  • Started flying basic formation with a micro-clinic from Rosie and Tobi (from the Switzerland RV wing on layover at SFO) and fellow KHAF 7-driver Pat.
  • Upgraded the panel to IFR during the never-ending San Francisco Fog Summer of ’21 (builder’s gonna build!)
  • Started IFR training; already have 0.3 in the book punching thru noted fog.
  • Launched for some slowly restarting fly-ins, always looking for more cool RV people to hang with.
  • Toying a bit with a GoPro to capture the extreme Top Gun action.
  • At 100 hrs and 472 landings later, the plane really has become like a comfortable old shoe. Fun to fly, no bad traits, solid systems performance, pure joy!

What was the 100hr-busting flight? A jump over the hill for some pattern work at my old training fields, KSQL and KPAO, followed by inflight experimentation with the OBS mode on my new GPS175 navigator, and a nice 3-point back at home. Surprised that it only took 1.0 on the Hobbs. Nice machines, these RVs.

200 hours hobbs

Hit 200 hours on the Hobbs on approach to KAXV This morning. Honestly, I’m not sure which feels like more of an accomplishment, that I built the plane or that I built the engine. Regardless, they seem pretty happy together.

Pilots N Paws

Three puppies showed up at Moontown (3M5) Saturday morning ready to start on their trip to Wilkes Barre, PA. I flew them from Moontown up to Elizabethton, TN (0A9) to meet with the leg 2 pilot. The pups are overnighting in Winchester, VA tonight and will travel on to their destination with the leg 3 pilot tomorrow.

They were a rowdy bunch before the flight!

Would have been a criminal offense to not fly this morning in DFW. 70*F. Oh baby!

Engine install

Pics says it all. Had to grind one wrench for upper left nut. Snap on box wrench worked well for all others.

Logged a 2.2 on Sunday. It was one of those perfect weather days that just command a mountain passing to explore new area. (click on pics)

How did you "secure the cargo" are they just leashed up to the flap rod so they don't just jump over into your lap?

2-ft long leashes looped around the flap shaft. Enough for them to move around but short enough to keep them in the back.
