Aerosun Vx landing / Taxi lights

I'm installing the Aerosun VX landing / taxi lights in the wingitps of my RV8. Is it just me or are the installation instructions way more complicated than they need be? I'm referring to all of the intricate sanding required to obtain the proper gap between the light and the cut-out. I'm happy with the end results but I could have probably achieved the same by simply cutting to the lines established by tracing the template, then sanding the edges smooth. Am I missing something?

Yes it is a lot of work but they are beautiful when you finish them. I went through the full procedure and after my final paint job I get many complements on how well they look and function.

How well did the lens fit into the recess of the VX fibreglass insert?
Mine seem to be varying in depth and not a definitive edge for the lens to sit next to, did you do some extra micro epoxy work to get a good finish?
