Gastons White River Resort

Gastons White River Resort. World class brown trout fishing on the White River just below Bull Shoals reservoir, beautiful lodge and cabins, great restaurant, and a 3200 ft grass strip. Land on rwy 24 and depart on rwy 6 due to terrain.
Check it out for a vacation or just a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Pettit Jean state park

I have heard Pettit Jean state park actually has a campground at the end of the runway. You taxi to your campsite! I will check this out and report back. This area of the state is beautiful and Greers Ferry lake is awesome. Clear, deep, and scenic.

[ed. by dr....YES, electricity and hot showers there at the runway campground. 11/24/06 camping trip write HERE]

Flight Deck Resturant - Clinton Library - KLIT Little Rock

Better than average airport resturant. Taxi up to the Central Ramp and walk 50 feet for lunch. Great full service FBO, usually has cars available for short trips, rentals easy and quick. Cabs available. No ramp fees.

For historians of any flavor, the Clinton library is 5 minutes away along with a host of nice resturants in the Market Center area on the Arkansas River. It's a nice tour no matter what your political persuasion look like :)

USS Razorback ( WWII Submarine Tour ) is nice if you like that sort of thing.

Several RVs over at KORK (North Little Rock) just on the other side of the river.

EAA Chapter 165 operates out of KORK as well.

EM for other options.

Neat place for lunch

Just made a lunch trip with some friends from our local EAA chapter to a nice little airport in Mount Ida, Arkansas. The airport ID is 7M3. The diner, which is also a hotel, serves your typical home style fare. Just park on the ramp and walk maybe 100 yards to the Crystal Inn. Great ozark scenery, easy access. Makes for a great lunch destination. Alan Buford

Arkansas Air Museum - Drake Field FYV

Just made a visit to the Arkansas Air Museum and it was terrific. Very large and very old hangar full of really neat airplanes, Stearmans, Travel-Air, Command Air, Sam Waltons first airplane (aircoupe), Lear Jets, Cubs, Texans, and more. Just lots of things to see.

In addition, in another building (a very large building) they have a dozen or so military helicopters, Hueys, Cobras, etc and a Huey that you can actually climb into.

Another building (very large hangar) is full of restored military vehicles, another full of Air Force flight suits, helments, gear, guns, etc. Cool Stuff!

Warren Jones is the curator, and is also a past EAA chapter president. Call him and visit. He arranged a car and lunch for our group and gave us a personal tour and history of the aircraft! Really helpful! Tell him the RV Ark group sent you!

Hot Springs

Spent a pleasant few days there a couple of weeks ago.

The history of the hot springs is interesting and the NPS runs a restored bathhouse as a museum -

Some of the stuff in there looked quite harmful, even though it was called medicine - from the hydrotherapy room -

The airport (KHOT) is city run with a pleasant staff and reasonable (for today...:(...) fuel prices.
Tie downs were $3 a night.
An Enterprise counter is in the terminal adjacent to the FBO.

If you like big sparks... the largest Tesla coil is at the local Mid-America Science Museum -

Karen's Kitchen - Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas 6M2

It was a just gorgeous day to fly and a great place to go for lunch. Maybe as good as Taylor’s at Pine Bluff and that’s saying sum’tun! :)

Karen’s is a great place to go. Located about 100 yards from the hangars at the airport (6M2) so it’s like …. right there! No car needed. Food was very good, very inexpensive, and the service was great! Great place to take your wife or a date for lunch when the boys can't come out and play. Dasha our waitress was from Russia with a real Russian accent …. As far as any of us could tell! Also cute so that was good too!

Had a really nice menu with a variety of salads, fried and grilled stuff but the lunch special today was a cup of 3-Bean Chili with a grilled cheese sandwich for $3.50 …. That’s right $3.50. For a buck, you could upgrade to a large bowl with the grilled cheese on wheat bread and they had several takers for that selection.... (410 total calories for anyone that is counting ;) ) We had about 6 cups of coffee each (did I tell you it was COLD flying today) and the special and walked out with the tip for less than $7 a head…. What a deal!

Now don’t you think it’s a little ironic that we are so enthused about the “deal” when we’re burning $6 a gallon fuel to get there …  But then we do “fly for food” don’t we! This is definitely one of the places to put on the list of places to go or stop if you get the chance.

Open 7-1 on Sunday and 7-4 Weekdays. Phone 870-67-5553 and yes, Karen was there in the kitchen making it happen!

We gave it a 8-9 on the RV Lunch Spot Scale :)

Plan a trip to Northwest Arkansas and visit Crystal Bridges Museum

http://crystalbridges.org/

It has a world class collection and the facilities and setting are awesome.

Also stop by the Walton 5 and 10 on the square in downtown Bentonville.

KVBT is very close to all of these and I believe they have a courtesy car at the FBO.
