Apollo GX65 Low Battery Message

Where/who can replace the internal lithium battery in a GX65? The User guide says it must be replaced by the factory, an authorized dealer, or service center. Does Garmin still service Apollo?
Anybody replaced it themselves?
Does the battery need to be replaced? I believe it only holds the user waypoint and flight plans which I do not use my GX65 to do? I mainly use the comm and occasionally manually put in a destination to track to as a backup nav.

User guide also says battery should last 4-6 years. I have been flying for 16 years and just noticed the message popping up recently.

The battery can and has been replaced by users. I have a T-18 friend that did his in a GX-65 years ago. I did mine in my GX-60 years ago. I have photos somewhere. There was a write-up posted to the SoCAL-RVlist with the photos.

These are photos I got from my T-18 friend. My GX-60 was the same.

IIRC, the battery is used to save the memory of the last GPS location so that it does not take as long when the unit turns on.

Hope this helps.

Did a quick Duck, Duck, Go search and found this.
