Taller RV-7 Instrument panel

Does anyone know where I can order a taller RV 7 instrument panel?

The stock Vans panel will not accommodate the new style GRT EFIS stacked one on top of the other.

Thanks,

It shouldn't be that hard to make your own, using standard panel as template.. But, I'd suggest putting those screens side-by-side instead of extending the panel. Your knees will thank you later when you start flying.. :)

I had the same issue.

I stop at Vans (I am a local builder) to buy some metal to build my taller panel. While explaining what I wanted to Scott Risian, he said that they could make me a new panel that was as high as I wanted. I added one more inch to that standard panel and the plugged the change into the CNC machine and the new panel came out just like I wanted. I don't think they charged me anymore then the standard panel.

I didn't add a subpanel strip for switches/fuses so the over all hight didn't come out different then most peoples.

Good luck, Kent

Aircraft Spruce. 2024-T3 sheet, .063" thick. Clamp the old panel to the sheet, match-drill the holes, and trace the outline. Cut it, rivet a flange on the bottom (or bend it if you have a brake), done deal.

At least that's what I did! :D

Van's sells an RV-6 OVSZ panel that will serve your purpose. It has the bent flange but is left oversized in height and width. All you need to do is lay your original panel over it to trace the top profile and cut the top edge. It is about 2" taller in height than the stock.

Take a look at affordable panels.com. Cost more than Van's but you can send your entire layout and recieve a custom cut awesome looking panel.

the original Vans is 0.63 thick as well? thanks

extended panel

I think I have an extra panel that I am willing to sell. I will check and see....

I had to shorten my control sticks 3" in order for it to clear the panel with the wood grips i used. when u shorten the stick too much the aircraft gets touchy. a pilot here wit an RV9 cut his short and mike seager told him he would have less trouble handling the aircraft. so be carefull how much you have to shorten them. a dar will make sure the sticks hit nothing throught their entire travel!

I made my panel 3/4 inch longer out of .063, sturdy enough/sticks plenty long and screens and switches fit with room to spare.
