GSU 25C Service Alert

The primary mission within TeamX is to continually innovate non-certificated aircraft avionics while increasing the margin of safety for the operation of EAB aircraft. To build upon this foundation, we must raise awareness of safety issues related to the installation and use of our equipment as they arise.

If a GSU 25C Air Data, Attitude, and Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) is subjected to significant amounts of acoustic noise energy, erroneous attitude information may be displayed on the GDU. While aircraft are inherently noisy environments, it is important to note that the potential for this problem is highly dependent on both the intensity of the noise and the acoustic path of that energy to the ADAHRS.

We have seen this occur in two specific installation locations, but it is possible for this to occur in other installation locations if subjected to significant amounts of acoustic energy:

• Wing of a tube-and-fabric airframe when flown through precipitation
• Beneath the baggage floor of an aluminum airframe in a small, enclosed compartment

If you suspect your aircraft is exhibiting degraded attitude performance as described in this service advisory, follow the steps outlined in the document. Cease autopilot use, disable ESP, and avoid IMC until you are able to address the problem. Relocation or modification of the ADAHRS installation will generally be advised. Please contact Garmin Experimental Aviation support or your kit manufacturer and we will work with you to identify the best path forward.

Hi Justin i had a dud GSU 25C " serial number in service alert " and garmin Australia replaced it with a overhauled unit. The overhauled unit has the same part number and is also in the effected serial number range. Surly this cannot be right .
