Tempest Fine Wire Spark Plug Cleaning

VF84Sluggo

I pulled my Tempest fine wire plugs as part of my oil change. I notice that some have a buildup of carbon on them. Is soaking the plugs in MEK to loosen up the crud, then using an old toothbrush to brush it away an acceptable practice? I don't think the bristles on an old toothbrush will hurt the plug tip and electrodes, but I'm wondering if MEK will damage the plug.

Thoughts on this?

MEK shouldn't hurt the fine wire plugs but all you really need to do is use a dental pick to clean the lead out and re-install with new gaskets.

Thanks, Marc. I need to get one of those. Sounds like I'm making this harder than it needs to be.

The fine wire is extremely hard and *brittle. Do not touch it when cleaning or you run the risk of breaking it and buying a new plug.
