My 30 year Bingelis built 6A needs her can replaced. Before I go shop The Mart of Wal, is there a purpose built replacement I could purchase? At 30 years old, she deserves an upgrade, and it’s leaking. I know of Antisplats fine products, I just need a catch can.

Looks just like my Lowe’s/HD/Ace denatured alcohol can with the plastic top popped off. Keep it Tony original!

Oil catch can

Butch,

When I bought my -8 it had an oil Separator system with the round oil catch can just like your first picture. I have since replaced it with the Anti Splat Oil Separator system. I’m not using it so make a small donation to this forum and pay postage and it’s yours.

Risk vs reward: possible plugged breather vs a little oil on belly, pick your poison.

Assuming you maintain the standard breather line, adding a separator with a collection can does not cause a plugged breather. If anything it provides an additional crankcase vent path if you manage to freeze over the standard breather line because you installed it wrong.

I’ve used the round can on two RVs and the Antisplat separator on the RV-10. Both work. I do not (and never would) run the separator drain line to the engine nor add the “vacuum draw” deal once sold by Anitsplat.

Thanks Oly, my separator is fine, just need a new catch can, the round item is the air/oil separator, bottom line runs to a catch can, dump as needed.

Line from engine goes to Right port on air/oil separator, Left port/ hose goes to bottom cowl - exits little oil on belly. Bottom port is the condensate port/ hose , that drips ever so little oil in the catch can, dumped at condition inspection. Catch can leaked and was replaced. I believe I’m good on possible plugging. Thanks Walt

Shoot. I just had one in perfect shape but I turned it into a comm transceiver base station for the hangar:
