Hello all, received the following email from Vans today. Posting it here to share with the group in case it effects someone who did not received the message. The pump which I ordered Jan 2, 2020 has a Vans sticker with the date 07/18/2019 does have the incorrectly tapered fittings.
Dear Builder,
Our records show you have purchased an ES 40108 Facet fuel boost pump.
I’m sorry, we’ve discovered Facet had a manufacturing error on some of those pumps. The fittings installed are the wrong angle, which could cause some issues with fuel leaking.
Normally the two standard types of flared fittings are 37° and 45°, we have found that some of the fittings on these pumps were 53° making this a manufacturing flaw, not just having used the wrong fitting as we initially thought.
Below are two illustration that may help identify the issue, the second drawing shows a blue line 45° and a red line at 53°. The correct angle is measured 37° from a point 90° to the face of the fitting where the fittings in question were cut 37° square to the face of the fitting as shown below.
We are currently working with our supplier to obtain correct parts, we hope to have them in stock within the next few weeks.
If the pump you received is affected by this issue, please complete the attached return form and return the unit to Van’s Aircraft. Please advise if you would like a refund or a replacement. Depending on how quickly Facet can resolve this problem and send correct parts, there my be a delay of several weeks getting a replacement.
