Garmin 430 Squelch

I have a 430 (not a W model) that is about 7 years old (SN 97127792). Since first installed, it ocassionally breaks squelch without a signal present. It doesn't seem to matter what frequency it is set to. I have progressively adjusted the squelch setting from the original factory setting of 39 to 25 (done an all three frequencies per the manual). Didn't seem to make much difference.

Just returned from a two week trip and the squelch has become annoying. Any suggestions? Is there a factory mod to address this?

Aircraft is a Europa (composite) with copper tape comm antenna. Antenna was carefully adjusted using an antenna analyzer as well as SWR meter.

Are you sure is the 430 and not the intercom squelch. I had the same problem and it turn out it was my intercom squelch.

I'm pretty sure it's the 430 because I see the RX light up on the 430 display.

Hold the enter button while powering up the -430 to get into the setup mode.

The squelch is adjustable in setup, but be careful, there is lots of stuff you can screw up in there......
