Earlier Noah suggested a Vlad poll so here's my take - the question is: How well do you know Vlad?

Great guy!

I met him a month ago. He wanted to go for a ride on the back of my Harley. I don't usually take dudes for a ride, but it was Vlad so what could I say. We rounded up a full face helmet and he's not a real big fella, so I think I got away with it without too many people noticing...Except for Ron B who got a picture. :D

We've met Vlad at two of our Glen L boat gatherings. He really needs to build a Glen L Zip as two of us RV pilots have already built one and another commercial pilot has also built a Zip. Zips are in RV builders (and pilots in general) DNA:D

Roberta:)

Roberta, what is a Glen L Zip?

I came home exhausted counting RV8 fuse parts and I see this :D You guys are funny. Ron, I plan to cover 99% of your suggestions you can vote now :D

Yes, I?ve met him (and the stories I could tell).

I like this response the best! I have 3 chapters compiled of my NY TIMES best seller!

"vlad"? Doesn't ring a bell. Is that a first name or last name? Is he a pilot? Sorry. I guess I have not heard of the person.

VLAD DOESNT EXIST

I dont think Vlad is a real person.
I believe the brain trust at VAF created him to get us all to spend way too much time on this site looking at pics, looking at maps and day dreaming of travels like he has almsost WEEKLY.

Whenever I have PM'd Vlad, I get an immediate response with lots of detail. So...
No way he can hold down a real job, build and fly the stuffing out of his plane, fly all over the continent.... be allowed in and out of the US with his questionable past and still reply to pms in second.

Something is FISHY....

How can he have so many cousins and not be from Kentucky... Just saying..
How can he eat so much and still fit in the airplane....

Just doesnt add up... Hmmmmmm:confused:

Vlad

I met Vlad when he and cousin Don stopped in at Louisa Airport (Virginia) to visit and raid my fridge! Fridge is restocked and ready for another visit Vlad. I even got to share the air with Vlad while flying a very loose two ship over central Va.

Funny stuff here!

Vlad, i won't tell any stories here but if i have a few and start talking...

What is the price for silence?

:D. CJ

The guy in red shirt is a veteran pilot who is thinking of getting back to flying after full medical recovery. We had a good chat.

BTW Doug can you track IP location of that single poller? Just hemisphere OK :D

In Texas

Vlad flew all the way from somewhere north of here (??) just to see me, and give me my first ride in an RV-9A. That was back at 300 hours. I took a picture of Vlad?s Hobbs to document to the world he had 300 hours. Silly me.

We flew over to KSLR and broke bread together.

We should start a new poll

When do you think that Vlad will stop flying long enough to get his plane painted?:D

Kent

I haven't yet met him, but we're working on it...

BTW, I'm curious to hear from Vlad how HE answered the poll.:D

It is somewhat like having a cat.

It stops by, you feed it and have a great time. Then it leaves and you never know when it will come back!

Hahahaha

Come back soon Vlad!

:D CJ

You guys have nothing to do? "Scroll" you too :D How about go to the shop and squeeze couple rivets or sand some fiberglass...

Captain the price for your silence will be 50 Nova Scotia sea bugs.

PS; Mods this would be perfect thread for Test/Misc section

Don?t stop here, I?m airplane poor! My wife is already mad and the kids are starving from my recent engine purchase! Well, I might have dinner and a beer.. :D

Les Nessman

As my hero, Les Nessman, said, "If there's one thing this reporter knows about, it's two things. One, hogs, and two, Communists." :D
Never met Vlad, but he and his trip write-ups are largely responsible for getting me back to work on the plane. Any plans to visit Washington state?

VAF Political Officer

Maybe Comrade Vlad should be appointed as the VAF Political Officer.

Russian Contingent

Our PD was working security at the 1991 Cleveland Airshow. The Russian contingent was there with a "MIG-29 Friendship Tour". Several officers befriended one of the pilots and some crew members. We went for refreshments after the daily shows. The guys told us about daily living and hardships where they lived. When they were ready to leave, several officers asked how we could help. What do they need? Number one answer. Tires. They couldn't get tires for cars. We all pitched in and bought several sets of tires (harder to find than you think metric tires, at the time) They couldn't believe our generosity and responded with a bunch of souvenir items and some literally off their backs. (Juri's crew shirt) Items shown below. And yes, that's a genuine Russian bear. Keep in mind it was 1991 and the camaraderie was really something to every one of us.

Vlad, the bear goes to your first born (if you have/want/expect kids). You'll have to come visit to get it though.:D

Cute Mishka

Nice story Gary. Them Russians probably fooled you a bit :D Likely you dealt with "Mazoota" that's how we usually called ground support crews, with love of course. The guys who did all the wrenching and hard work to keep that machine in the air. Mechanics, powerplant engineers, avionics technicians and others. Pilots were usually well guarded, properly compensated and very well brainwashed. I doubt they could easy contact your escort. Only if you speak fluent Russian :D

1991 was still intense on propaganda. Depending where the "Frendship Tour" originated from the hardships they were talking about wasn't that hard. For remote Siberian garrisons near Chinese border maybe there was shortage of tires. But on European Theater for airmen there was a paradise. Yes, new cars were rationed and usually given to senior officers or combat vets who accumulated some roubles after certain tours. But hey I was fresh graduate and didn't have savings anyway. Life was great when we were in our twenties isn't it?

This picture from 1988 we just received two squadrons of brand new aircrafts and were flying experimental "Combat Preparedness Course - 1991" which was never introduced to regular units. You know why. I am with ALPA approved mustaches looks manly huh? My buddy to the right - a Leningrad Cowboy made great career retired a decade ago with big stars.

Wow! Vlad, you've been getting a russian flying celebrity in the USA :)

Thanks to Vlad's stories and his valuable advices I accelerated the RV building and have already completed it.

VAF Political Officer.. Not so fast

"Maybe Comrade Vlad should be appointed as the VAF Political Officer."

Just in. I have become suspisious of they many routes were Vlad flys close to Restrcted Airspace, Security Areas Etc. I recently peeked in his hangar and found this below. Should we be concerned?;)

Have a safe RV fun filled weekend everyone!!:D

Has anyone Vlad?idated these stories? They could be just another Vladalent attempt at propaganda. What about all those hours he has purported to have flown in his Richard Vlad?grunsven dash niner, those couldn?t possibly be real? And to think he has done those hours flying by VFR (Vlad Flight Rules), I?m not buying any of it.

Next thing you know, he will be writing a story about flying to Vladmont or NeVlada or some such place.

Suspicious activity

Jeff, and why is it that you just happened to have a statue of Lenin handy Comrade
Vaughan :D

Bill, that's funny.

Vlad, yep those boys probably hustled us a little but hearing their stories was worth it.

Small World - I was just contacted/pm by another VAF member. He was at the Cleveland Air Show during the 1991 Friendship Tour and was in the Russian crew of IL-76. He said it was the first stop of the tour. He is in the early stages of building a -10. How's that for VAF family :D

Hi all,
No, I did not expect to read anything about "Mig 29 Friendship Tour" here... But, yes, it is a very small world for those who fly! It was very heart warming to read a note about that time. Met a lot of good people back then.
I was a flight interpreter on IL-76. Yes, Cleveland was our first stop, then to Mankato, MN and then to Harrisburg, PA. I went to Burke Lakefront again in 2001. The show was stiil great, but Ilyushin and Migs were missing :)

I don't mean to wander offtopic of the post.. I'm more than sure i will meet many of posters, and Vlad, on the fields!

Yuri

Had lunch with him today, maybe he's a Russian spy trying to bring all his knowledge back to Russia and build planes there!

Teacher Vlad

Great to meet Vlad at KAEG and share green chili  . He taught me to post photos on VAF and he will pay the price. Vlad, remember "No good deed goes unpunished!"

Balloonists will know what is happening below... :D
