Finishing up the condition inspection:
* Three new tires, one new tube that didn't quite fit. The shop on the field pinched that tube, then the replacement, then put in a larger tube;
* New brake pads and rotors;
* Overhaul four master cylinders. They're back, but I'm waiting on screws that should be here tomorrow. I'll cut those to length, then we can re-install;
* Extensive filing on the prop by the mechanic. Got the approved white paint number from Hartzell and made a real mess with it. Don't know what the trick is to get the heavy paint to mist consistently, maybe rattle the can for a long, long time...
* Removed old ELT bracket. Screwed up both knees badly in the attempt. MRI shows the worse one is ready for surgery, but hopefully I can make it past Oshkosh;
* Sent the ELT in to be reprogrammed to a different baud rate. Haven't tested it yet;
* Took the steps out to be cerakoted. My friend discovered the hard way that white cures at a lower temperature than the other colors;
* Aileron bracket service bulletin, still good;
* Oil and filter;
* Bleed the brakes once they're reassembled.

This is more than maybe the last three combined...

Photo shoot!

Stella

This good looking Husky girl, Stella, went from Baton Rouge, LA (KBTR) to Wadsworth, OH (3G3) on Saturday in 3 legs. I flew down to Baton Rouge to pick her up and met the 2nd leg pilot at Huntsville, AL Executive Airport (KMDQ). I'm thinking Stella will find the weather in northern Ohio more to her liking than southern Lousiana!

Flew from Eastern Washington to Tehachapi CA via Silver Springs/Carson City/ Silver Springs/Carson City. (lost fuel cap enroute after stop at Silver Springs and found out no fuel avail). Found a builder in Carson City with spare cap and borrowed it for the weekend. Will mail it back tomorrow.
Once I arrived in Tehachapi I jumped in a glider for an hour, wahoo! Then spent the evening with my Father and his Brother who have not seen each other in person since 1963. Steaks, good food, some Sangria, and rest. Up for breakfast and took the older man for a ride around the area, then back home to Eastern Washington and 35kt headwinds on landing at Lexington (fuel Card reader not working, figured out how to override manually) then back home. Next day short trip to Hayden Idaho for Mothers day dinner. all in all about 1600 miles in the RV7a, or about 11 hours FT.

Finally got smart doing my oil change. Third time is the charm, no mess! I'm also on the blue bottle now, no more mineral for this guy. haha

Also did some LOP tests after changing out a couple of restrictors. Check that data out! :D

Aerobatics training in Rio de Janeiro

On Saturday we finished a busy week practicing aerobatics in Rio, with Marcos Geraldi, a Brazilian aerobatics reference (look for Tuareg Aerobatics on instagram, super cool videos).

Video of one of the lessons: https://youtu.be/TnoEXjpLIkM

The RV-7 is a great machine !

We flew up to Concord, CA (CCR) on Friday for a family reunion. Ate lots and visited on Friday PM - Sunday AM, and then flew back home to Fallbrook (L18).

We passed a Piper Archer on the flight home today, with a 75 knot overtake, which is always fun to see.

Tomorrow, more flying, this time in the work plane. Not a bad life.

Flew around Leadville

Had a nice flight Friday in and around the '14ners' and Central Colorado. Leadville was stunning! Smooth air clear skies and only a little bit of turbulence; which I freaking hate.

Quick flight to KLIC

I am looking for an airport East of KFLY to put a piece of equipment at. So I flew up to KLIC to see if they had wireless (which I need). Unfortunately, it does not look like they do.

Anyway, nice day for a flight. Here are the wind turbines which now fill most of the distance between Colorado Springs and Limon.

It was a good day for a flight.

Blue skies everyone.

Finally back in the air!

After making our way through the down time waiting for an XP-400 replacement, getting her flying again, then getting stopped in our tracks by C-19 we can finally join this string. The -14 is back in the air and for Mother’s Day we flew from Camas Grove (1W1) to Astoria, down the coast to Newport and back with fuel stops in Scappoose. For lunch in Newport we shared scallops and halibut and a crab sandwich sitting at the beach. Gorgeous day today once the am Wx cleared. Food was tasty and the courtesy car was a retired Police Interceptor which still had some juice in her. A nice day!

I hosted a Boy Scout Aviation merit badge to 10 Scouts and each one got a ride in my RV-6A. 9 of these had never ridden in an aircraft other than a commercial airliner.

SoCal

Flew to Catalina for the weekend (well, we tried). Ceilings dropped to IFR as we were inbound so we diverted to Long Beach and took the ferry. Naturally the next day was clear skies. It was fun but man what busy airspace!

I flew my wife to Hilton Head Island (from Virginia)

It was her first flight in my RV-14A. She kept asking if I was sure I had put it together correctly...

We flew down on Thursday morning and spent the next 4 days enjoying the sun and beach. Played lots of tennis and ate too much food.

Flew home this morning. Even got to fly a full approach through moderate rain and a low overcast and broke out at 1500' right exactly on the centerline. The GTN650/G3X system is amazing.
