How to Land an RV - part 2

Well Known Member
I've seen Van's "How to Land an RV" article on this and other websites. This article is from the first issue of the 2003 RVator.

Part two of the article is continued in the 2003 RVator second issue but I haven't been able to find it online. I wanted to send a copy to a friend so I found my hardcopy and scanned it into a PDF file, which I've posted at this link "How to Land an RV - part 2".

Feel free to copy and distribute.

Not found error 404 from link

I get the error also. I can make it to your google+ page, but get the same not found error on the document link.

Top tip.

Part flap, don't go full fine - 2300 is just real great.

Blend the throttle off in the last 50 feet and aim for a 6" tail on touch.

Sweet !

If you do that in a -9, you will float off the end of a 2500' runway.

With the -9, speed is critical and I have found it best to pull the power all the way back abeam the touchdown point, drop all the flaps, and trim it for 55 kts solo or 60 kts w/ two and fly the entire pattern at those speeds. Any faster and you float, float, and float some more. Then again, a FP RV-9 is a much different animal than a short wing RV w/ a CS prop.
