Cost for inspection

If I disassemble an O-320 and sends the case, cam, crank and cylinders out for inspection what does it approximately cost for inspection? Just trying to get a ball park estimate.

Thanks,

Robby

YOu can expect about $1K for the case and $500-800 for the crank. May consider getting rods re-bushed and / or balanced, cam ground, new or O/H'ed lifter bodies, plugers, etc. Some do NDT on gears. You should definately have the crank gear tested and measured, as they can wear in some cases and is the mostly likely part damaged from a prop strike, excluding bent cranks, which often can be straightened. ASI lists all of their services and prices on their website and should be a good reference for you.

Cyl O/H is only a few hundred less than new cylinders.

Actual costs from last years O-360 overhaul that We wrote up in Kitplanes.....

Steel part inspections/rework at Aircraft Specialties totaled $2700.
DIVCO case work totaled $1400 ($300 of that was an expediting fee from 10 weeks to 10 days).
New parts from Aircraft Specialties (required to make it an overhaul) were $2370

No parts required scrapping or off-nominal rework - everything was standard.

We used all new cylinder/top end assemblies that we had on hand, so can;t give you a price on those - but as Larry pointed out, new prices are not that much more than rework.
