Member of KC Flight

Steve 'Boomer" Stucky - Wingman and Secretary
KC8-Member since 2011
FFI Initial Card April 2012
SAC Formation DM & Solo
Steve Stucky, callsign “Boomer”, flies a white over red RV-7. He built the RV over a two year period. This is the second airplane that Boomer has built. His first, a VariEze, was completed in 2000. Boomer is a retired Boom Operator from the 190th Air Refueling Wing, Topeka, KS. A veteran of Desert Storm and Kosovo, he also served as the Wing’s Command Chief Master Sergeant. As a Boom Operator in Desert Storm, Boomer was instrumental in getting a crippled KC-135 home to their base after losing 2 of their 4 engines on the same side of the plane. And losing does not mean they just quit working, but they completely separated from the airplane. With over 2000 flying hours and 1100 in his RV-7, he has been a private pilot for longer than he is willing to admit, and is curretnlty working towards his commercial pilot certificate. When not flying with KC Flight, Steve enjoys helping to improve fifth grade math skills and sports at an elementary school in Topeka or flying in his RV-7 with his wife to California to visit their only son. Currently, Steve and his wife, Trish are living their (or is it "his") dream on a grass airstrip just north of Topeka, KS.

Default Very Very sad to see RIP Steve

---- Steven was a very good customer for many years, and I always looked Forword
to the conversations we had about our airplanes and his vast aviation experiences.
I feel like our community has been diminished by this terrible loss. They don't make
these types of people anymore, and he will surely be missed by many. Condolences
to his family, friends, and loved ones who, I am sure are very proud of Steven's
contribution to us all. RIP, Allan and Staff at A.S.A.

Default Obituary updated

Steven Dale Stucky of Topeka, Kansas passed away on July 16th, 2022, at the age of 74. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Patricia Ann (Jones) Stucky, son Dr. Brian Dale Stucky, and daughter in law Jacqueline Laurita Cortese. Steve was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on January 22nd, 1948, to parents Clarence “Snook” Dale Stucky and Pearl K. Stucky, and younger brother to Karen K. (Stucky) Kelly.

He attended Haven High School and graduated with the class of 1966 and later attended both Hutchison Community College and Pittsburg State University.

He began his distinguished military career with the Kansas Air National Guard in 1967 as an avionics technician. He transitioned into the role of an in-flight refueler (boom operator) in 1977 as the 190th Air Refueling Wing began an air refueling mission with KC-135 aircraft.
In this role he received the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1992, served as the Chief Boom Operator for the 117th Air Refueling Squadron, and was named the 190th Air Refueling Wing Command Chief Master Sargent in 2001 before retiring in 2004 after 36 years of military service.

In addition to his military career, he was an experienced pilot and held multiple ratings including Visual Flight Rules (VFR), Commercial, Formation Flying Inc. (FFI), and Dynamic Maneuvering with the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS). He built two airplanes, a Vari-Eze (N282S), now on display at the Coffeyville Aviation Heritage Museum and an RV-7 (N283S). With his RV-7 he enjoyed flying formation as a member of the KC Flight Formation Team and performed at air shows nationally. In addition to flying, his natural curiosity and excitement for learning was manifested in his ability to engineer, build, and create. He was an experienced photographer, competitively raced RC boats and flew indoor and RC airplanes, and enjoyed many other outdoor hobbies including golf, camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and volunteered at the State Street School.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 29th at 10:00 am at Dove Funeral Home (Southwest Chapel), 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd. in Topeka, Kansas 66610. Additional hours for visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28th from 6:00-8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Combat Air Museum and the Topeka Rescue Mission.

THE BOOMERS PRAYER
MAY THE WEATHER BE SMOOTH AND THE BOW WAVE SLIGHT, MAY THE RECEPTACLE BE LARGE AND HAVE A PLETHORA OF LIGHTS. MAY CARGO AND PAX BE NOT ABOARD,
MAY WE NEVER HAVE TO USE THE PARACHUTE RIP-CORD.
THIS WE ASK FROM THE POWER ABOVE,
JUST LET US DO WHAT ALL BOOMER’S LOVE.
TO DIRECT THE BOOM WITH PRECISION, AND A TOUCH THAT IS SLIGHT, TO GET THE CUSTOMER ENOUGH GAS TO FINISH THEIR FLIGHT.
OR TO SIMPLY PUT IT,
SO WE CAN JUST ILLUMINATE THE “BOOM ENGAGED LIGHT”.

Saw this on VAF and it spoke to me. RIP Steve, as a fellow RV pilot I know we would have hit it off. No doubt you will be missed.
