Testing the 396 Terrain Database

Taking advantage of the outstanding Fall weather this weekend, my first officer and I decided to fly from our home base in Perry, Georgia (PXE) to visit my high school buddy, Andy, and his family in Franklin, North Carolina (1A5), 168 NM.
This is was a great opportunity to test the terrain info in my new 396. We are flatlanders from central Ga. and the flight north past Atlanta and into N.C. takes you into the Appalachian Mountains where the peaks rise to 4-5000 ft in this area. The 396 passed the terrain ops check!

Upon arrival, we all drove to Fat Buddies for some BBQ. Very good food!

In the late afternoon with full bellies and calm skies, F.O. Brucie and I set out for home. Somewhere along the way, we both dozed off! Can you believe it?! We overflew our destination by twenty miles!
