Moving to the airport

Hi guys, I’m about ready to move my project to the hanger (99% done).

I don’t have a big truck or trailer so I’m thinking a flatbed tow truck (I’ve seen them used in the past for this)

For the folks that have made the move how did you do it? What about the wings?

I used a flat bed car hauler trailer to take my 12 from home workshop to airport hangar (26 mi.). Trailer was low to the ground, so was easy to push up the ramps. Trailer had multiple tie down points - but I focused on the mains and left the tail free.
Used the Van's towbar to lock rudder & seatbelt to the stick.
Drove rather slow (45ish?) and had no issues.
Made a separate trip with the wings.
It must have been "throw out mattress" season, so I picked up a couple beside the road on way home. Laid the wings on them and strapped them down. Another successful no issue trip.
You're going to love flying your 12 ... and you're almost there !

Harbor Freight trailer with added outriggers. Didn’t drive it on the interstate, but my friend following me said he wouldn’t have hesitated to have driven it to Florida (I’m in SC) and that the tail barely budged, even when cross a RR track.

I rented a tilt-bed truck, with winch, made two trips (fuselage one trip, wings on the other) I had to measure the bed width at the rental place, only one of their two trucks was wide enough for the 10’s wheel base.

My first homebuilt was completed in my garage. I had a local towing company put it on a flatbed and take it to the airport.

This is exactly how I moved to the airport a couple of weeks ago. The flatbed tow truck was ideal and shifted the liability for damage away from me had I done it myself. The wings I moved myself in a trailer.

What he said.

RV-9A: A thousand miles from NC to MI on my modified car hauler. Wings and control surfaces in my custom built wood crate.
RV-10: 9 miles each way on a hired roll back deck wrecker. Took two trips and cost $150. I also tipped the driver $50.
