Default WTB RV4 Conical Engine Mount - O290

Hi all. I have an opportunity to buy a fresh overhauled O-290 for a ridiculously low price - which is the top of my budget range. I am considering. It would require a non-dynafocal engine mount. Anyone have one they could part with? I know there are many factors to this decision - but the availability of the mount has a lot to do with what I decide. I often go several days between log-ins - so be patient on responses. Thanks.

Default 0-290 on RV-4

I would consider the other items that can affect your overall pricing outcome and installation times.
Finding that mount, unless ordered from vans may be a stretch.
The O-290, while cheap to buy, will cost you to get it installed and running. The baffling is not even close to the 0-320 engine. The other items that will be fun to deal with is the oil cooler and vent line. Also, I believe that engine doesn't have the option for a spin on oil filter. Just a screen, which is not a huge deal.
Then there is the issue of cylinders, pistons and rings. If you have an issue, it may be hard to find servicable or new parts. There is a experimental outfit that makes pistons, which is good for your engine on an RV-4. These rest of the parts are hit and miss for finding them.
The 0-235 or 0-320 (150hp) engines may be a better option in the long run.

Another alternative would be to disassemble the engine and send the case out to one of the case overhaul shops, they can convert it to a dynafocal mount. It’s pretty inexpensive. You’d be out the cost of the machine work, shipping and a handful of gaskets.

Although the O290 is cheap, even if given to him for free, will cost more in the long run. The resale value difference lost will be more than a O320.. way more. Same with the O235. Save and shop around for the right engine, even if it’s timed out.
