Default FIRST SPLAT!! (and you know what THAT means...)

Now why on Earth would my RV-7A project, one that never traveled faster than what Tony Partain's truck could carry it, have a bug splat on its wing leading edge?

Because RV-7A N260KM flew her maiden flight yesterday! Actually, it was a 2-hop. The first flight was very brief, because I had no airspeed and because my SkyView EMS triggered a high CHT warning for my #3 cylinder. I climbed and turned directly into the downwind and landed using GPS ground speed.

I figured out that I hadn't loaded the correct CHT scales into the SkyView EMS configuration, and that I had crossed my pitot and AOA lines , I corrected those and launched again. This time, everything was picture perfect. No roll/pitch/yaw problems, no heavy wing, no cautions or warnings...just one really happy and eager airplane.

Prebriefing the flight. Blake and Monica Graham (left) flew chase in their RV-7. Tony Malley (my brother-in-law, to my right) ran the ground crew. I wore my USAF Nomex because it was, after all, an EAB first flight.

My son Houston helping me get strapped in.

Ready for engine start.

Run-ups complete. Blake and Monica are ready on the right.

She wants to fly!

She floated a bit on landing, no thanks to my extra few knots for Kelli and the boys.

Need I say more? My face still hurts from the non-stop RV grin.

Thanks a million to all who helped with this build. Joe, Kent, Bugsy, Rich, Steve, Gen Hostage and Gen Rew, Doug, Randy and Tony, Gary, Clayton, Terry, Erkle, Chris, Blake and Monica, TJ, Brandon, Juando, Glen and the Two Daves and the MarcAir crew, Mel, and so many others.

Now, to knock out that Phase I and turn KELLI GIRL into the Magical Memory Machine. To all you lurkers out there....JUST DO IT!!

Bug splats are a better Christening of a new plane than a bottle of champagne... which is a waste of perfectly good alchoholic beverage when poured on a vessel.

Congrats!

The information that I post is just that; information and my own personal experiences. You need to weight out the pros and cons and make up your own mind/decisions. The pictures posted may not show the final stage or configuration. Build at your own risk.
