Hat sighting in New Zealand
We are on an aerial tour of New Zealand and were surprised when stopping for fuel at Wanaka to find an RV7, ZK-RAJ, piloted by Tony and Shirley.
Small world!
Our next stop was on the beach at Big Bay. We are flying with FlyInn Tours.
And next stop was Milford Sound.
Having a great time flying around New Zealand. We spent the rest of the day flying over glaciers and then over to Stewart Island for the night and to fish and bird watch.

Got my mug between the Subaru and Twin Keck telescopes while visiting the Mauna Kea Observatories in Hawaii last week. At 13,677' it would have been nice to have some O2... Outstanding place to visit so go there if you are ever on the 'Big Island'...

VAF Hat Sighting
This photo was taken today at Dak To, Vietnam. This is the old airstrip at the Special Forces camp. I last stood on this strip 45 years ago and we had to leave in a hurry when 122mm rockets started hitting the strip. No problem with rockets today!

HAT SIGHTING - INSIDE THE FUSION REACTOR...
Hello Doug and VAF community,
This is my hat sighting post. In keeping with your front page posting back on October 15th, 2013, they finally shut down the fusion reactor and I was able to get my hat sighting picture. I can neither confirm nor deny that a hat was sighted inside the DIII-D Tokomak magnetic fusion reactor. Thanks for VAF and the entertainment value it brings. Kind Regards, TG.

sun n fun flight review
this is a yearly event: flying to sun n fun with my favorite master CFI for a flight review. he really keeps an eye on my flying. you never know what he is thinking or will do. though questions.
this day i missed the notam on the balloon launch till we dialed in lake parker arrival. at that point we pulled back power to 110 mph. still got there a bit early so we circled our 'lake of choice' while keeping tabs on the gang holding over lake parker. we waited about 5 minutes after the arrivals started and were greeted with no planes at the power plant.
there were some good arrival stories this year. one shortened up: an rv buddy was following two no so clued in pilots on downwind when the first guy landed on the NUMBERS, the second guy was given a go around but landed on the numbers too, locked up the brakes, blew out both mains, almost ran into first guy, and closed the runway for a while. i think that was friday.
