Just installed the radio, it seems to be working fine. I just wish I could have taken photos of all my settings before sending it off for repair.

As for the corrosion damage, this year I was caught in hone tremendous rain storm and the tip-up leaked, but I have a cloth cover to keep the radios dry and on another trip, I forgot to put the canopy cover on and when I opened the tip-up, that dew ran down the canopy, into the plane. Again, the cloth cover between the two panels shield the instruments but in both cases, the inside of the plane got wet. I wonder if the evaporation would have caused this "corrosion damage"?
I came up with a new way to install the radio, that completely avoids the problem with the ribbon cable.
Insert the radio into the tray, with the display still attached. Unscrew the display, tilt it forward just enough to expose the tray screw but do not pull it way from the radio body. Tighten the tray screw and then place the display back into position and gently tighten the display screws.
