I have inertial reels for the shoulder straps in my RV-6 and they are worthless in turbulence.... will not hold you down in the seat and I've had my head banged up against the top of the canopy in mountain turbulence and that's not fun. Inertial reels might be OK in a Bonanza, Cherokee, or Cessna, but IMHO do not belong in an RV.

Thanks for the comments. Always glad to leave an accessory off when it makes sense.
One of the temptations that I try to fight is installing cool gee whiz features. The inertia reel might have been one of those. But I'll need to ensure that I can reach the manual flap handle and trim -- don't expect much trouble there but we won't know for a year or two.
Thanks again,
Dave

I saw the airplane in person at Oshkosh this year. Absolutely beautiful!
One thing I noticed (and didn't get a chance to ask Louise about, even though she was right there) is the throttle--specifically, it looks like you have some kind of thumb switch on it. What does it do? It's been bugging me for months

I'll answer for Louise - it's a second PTT. You can use either the stick trigger or throttle switch, whichever is more convenient at the time.

Half Raven system
I've been thinking seriously about a "half Raven" system for my 1986 RV-3. Raven offers a 4 in dia and a 5 in dia version. Which is yours? Would the larger one fit?

Raven
I have the 4 inch Raven and almost never have to add oil in my RV-4. However, it is the full system, and you should be able to add the valves too. Maneuvers include an inverted spin in my free style and routinely push 3 negative Gs from inverted down 45 degree lines. Hope to see another RV flying some competition.

While it isn't impossible to add the valves in teh -3 (Rob Holmes has them) it makes things extremely crowded - much tighter than a -4.....go for it if you can and want - but maintenance is going to be tough. We have the smaller tank.

I would choose the half raven system if I had to do it again. The added cost and complexity of a full inverted system aren't worth it in my opinion. Installation will require plenty of band aids for your torn up knuckles. It's a tight fit!

Whether or not you go for nil, "half" or full Inverted I would suggest is purely down to desired/required profile. There is little point, and plenty of negatives, in fitting the full system, unless you intend/require to do sustained negative 'g' flight.
As far as room goes, yes the RV-3 is tight. However, the inverted valve is small when compared to the tank. Tank and/or valve need careful planning, not just for these parts, but routing / fittings of the pipework.
(we've fitted both)

Who?
Who owns Tsamsiyu currently? According to the FAA, NX13PL is no longer valid, and yet it was flying a recently as yesterday.
