Default ELT Antenna

Van's has the ELT antenna mounted on a bracket attached to the left longeron in the baggage area. Is anyone planning to mount it somewhere else? like externally mounted on the top skin toward the back, closer to where the ELT will be placed?

Thanks

My opinion is that the location called out in the drawings is the absolute best place for the antenna. Having the antenna in this location does not create drag and eliminates corrosion and possible water leakage that is inherent with a typical skin penetration type mounting arrangement. This mounting location probably makes the ELT signal more likely to be detected in the event of an accident where the aircraft ends up inverted. All too often ELT beacon signals are never detected due to the antenna being ripped off of an aircraft.

Best spot IMHO, moving mine at condition inspection.

Where is that, exactly? Is it pointing down? I haven't mounted mine yet (RV-9A) and I want to explore all options.

You can get a good view of it in their RV-14 walk around video at 8:53:
