Trip of a lifetime!!
Recently took a trip, with a very special friend, from Indiana to San Diego to see my youngest son, Ryan, graduate from the Marine Corp Recruit Depot. The trip started out from my home-base in northwest Indiana that included stops in Raton, NM...Page, AZ...San Diego, CA...San Francisco, CA...Tacoma, WA...and Cheyenne, WY. After nearly 4,800 nautical miles and 37.5 flaw-less flight hours, we saw some AMAZING parts of the country. The RV-9 flew wonderful and purred like a kitten. Our altitudes en-route ranged from 8,500' to 12,500' (with supplemental oxygen). Average groundspeed was 140 kts with a 6-6.5 gph fuel burn. We attached a Go-Pro camera to the tie-down attach point under the right wing and shot some amazing video. I attached one of the videos, shot over Monument Valley and Lake Powell, to inspire those still in the building phase. Keep pounding those rivets.....it's totally worth it! Finally, a big "atta-boy" to my son, Ryan! Very proud of you! And a "high five" to my friend Tracy for making a once far-off dream in an RV, become a reality!! You're an awesome co-pilot!!
The following link will take you to the video...

Very nice! We just attended graduation at MCRD Parris Island yesterday. No flying (weather in the area was atrocious before and after graduation, but was worth the drive to see that young man graduate. It was the first time I had returned to PI in 28 years. Congratulations to your son and to you on your trip!

Beautiful! Love the sequence near the end when you launch into Monument Valley.
Congratulations to your son! My cousin's son graduated from MCRD last year. He's a jet mechanic at MCAS Miramar now.

TRIP VIDEO #2
Well, fellow RV'ers, I was inspired by Myron Nelson's trip write-up about flying around the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, etc, so I thought I would post a link to another video we created while on our flight from Page, AZ to San Diego, CA. Myron had it right when he said there's something spiritual about this part of the country. It's stunning!! Definitely worth the trip!! Thank you to all for supporting our nation's newest Marine!

TRIP VIDEO #3
Hey there fellow RV'ers! Here's the 3rd video from our West Coast trip in September. This video was shot while departing Tacoma Narrows Airport in Washington. For those thinking about flying to this part of the country....DO IT!! The Northwest is a beautiful and serene part of the country. Enjoy the video!
