Service Advisory 1215 Rev B: GTN 650/750, GNS 400W/500W Series, and GNS 480 ADS-B Com

Team Garmin,

I have a GNS480 in my RV10, but for now have the G3X providing the position data to my 330ES for ADS-B out.

My understanding was that there was to be one final software update to the GNS480 that would make it capable to provide the position data to the 330ES for ADS-B out.

Is this Service advisory the software update I have been waiting for?

Also how can I get a copy of (Garmin P/N 190-01533-00) for a list of Garmin products and corresponding software versions that:

1. Comply with AC 20-165A Appendix 2 and AC 20-138C Appendix 4 and;
2. Are eligible for use as an ADS-B Out Position Source meeting the requirements of 14 CFR ? 91.227 when installed in accordance with Garmin?s installation instructions.

Hello Mark,

You are correct that we plan to provide a software update for the GNS 480 to allow it to be a FAR 91.227 compliant position source, but that update is not yet available. We understand that this should be available before the end of 2014.

You may click this link to download a copy of 190-01533-00 which identifies all of the Garmin products that are 14 CFR 91.227 ADS-B Out Compliant.
