Default Bird Strike Visualizations

I'm a GIS nerd, I love maps and spatial analysis, almost as much as flying. I stumbled across these maps while looking for some ways to visualize data for a customer and thought they would be good to share here.

These are different visualizations for aircraft wildlife strikes.

Aviation strikes by species

Median aircraft strikes from wildlife - change over time

Wildlife strikes by month

Aviation-related wildlife strikes by altitude in 3D

Default Birds Strike? Let me show you a true rocket strike map

http://www.oref.org.il/1096-he/Pakar.aspx

This map tells the population in each region in ISRAEL, about the time they have to catch shelter after the alarm siren is heard...

Default Bird strikes

Aaron,

Looks like the number of bird strikes has more to do with the number of planes in the air than the number of birds, and that the risk is nationwide. Also noticed that FL seems to have more large bird strikes as a percentage. Not surprising given all those big cranes or storks that seem to be everywhere south of the panhandle. I picked up a pair of parachute goggles to keep in my flight bag just in case... very light weight and only about $20.
