Any word on the completion of conversion kits? They are still not available on Van's web site. For those that have already installed them, it sure would be nice to see some video or pics of the dispersion patterns with everything turned on. Anybody mount them on a completed airframe yet?

The fiberglass inserts are tooled up, we are just working on getting the larger size clear lens cover stock make up that will be required for the larger light cove size on the RV-9 and RV-10/14. The same supplier that makes the wingtips for Van's will be making the inserts. I will try to get some photos for you soon.

Need any RV-10 builders to beta-test the inserts? :-D I'm exactly at the point of needing to purchase and install tip lighting now.

We will be recieving our first 10 sets of wingtip conversion inserts this week for both the RV-9, and the RV-10/14 wingtips. The RV-10/14 can use the existing lens window stock from Van's (you will need to cut a larger window out of the stock). The RV-9 needs a new lens stock to be made that is bigger for the larger cutout, we are working on getting the larger window stock for the RV-9 made up.

Any idea when Vans will start selling the wingtip kit for RV-8's?

If you have the W-715-1 wingtips, the lights kit is all you will need. Van's should start carrying them very soon. We are doing up a set of RV-10 wingtips with the lights for their factory plane, and hopefully they will have them on the plane at Oshkosh. I think that once they have the wingtips they will likely start to offer them on their store.

Here is a photo of the RV-10 wingtip insert mod. The tip on the left is the original size light cove (with marks showing the cut lines), and on the right is the larger light cove with the insert bonded in place. The popsicle sticks are being used to hold the outer surfaces to keep them aligned for a smooth transition while the fiberlass bond cures (bonded on the inside with a lap-joint).

Default Older W-715 Tips

Hello Dean,
Are there any plans to make a wing tip modification kit (and lenses) for the older W-715 tips that have the 4.5 inch cutout for an early RV7/8 wing?

Not at this time. Our understanding is that the majority of the RV7/8 kits that have shipped have the newer W-715-1 wingtips, so the ones with the older tip are in the minority. We may revisit this in the future, but for right now we are pretty busy just getting the mod kits for the RV-9 and RV-10/14 ready.

RV-4 and RV-6 owners who want to install the Vx will have to purchase W-715-1 wingtips since those older tips cannot be modified to accomodate the Vx. Per Van's, the W-715-1 tips are backward compatible with the RV-4 and RV-6.
