Default RV-4 Vert & Horz. Stab connection question

After pulling the empennage fairing off and doing some inspections we found that the builder was not quite to plans here, give me some feed back please on thoughts on to leave it or spend alot of time & $$$ to correct to plans. The plans calls for the angle brace to be on the forward side of the bulkhead not rear, does attach through the longerons at least. Plane has been flying since 2002, no signs of stress from what we can tell so far. Here are links to the pics and a short video of the actual install.

Default RV4 - Vert & Horz. Stab connection

Not sure when but the stab attach configuration changed on the 4. You should be able to get an older copy of the plans from Vans or someone with an older set that is effective to your plane. My Rocket had the same configuration as you show. I did go with a spacer and a lower angle and attached with four bolts. I may be able to find a picture.

My plans show 9 revisions, R1 is dated 11/83 and reads "Altered Stab Attach" with callouts to the angle bracket. The callout shows up on the left side of your photo here:

Also worth noting is that R6 (9/93) reads "Added F-419 & Note" and it looks like you've got a 419 underneath - I'm not sure whether there was something there before or if you've got a mix of revisions. I don't think rebuilding it to plans would mean major changes back there but it's a tight space to work in. Finding pre-'83 plans to check the install might be difficult.

Definitely worth a call to the factory.

Thanks to both of you guys, I think I will make a call to Vans and talk with someone there as well about my findings and go from there.
