Default New Video: Air Compressor and Rivet Set Basics

Hey everyone. I'm posting on behalf of Cleaveland Aircraft Tool today so Mike can stay focused on some other exciting projects.

We hosted our first "Tool Chat" last night on our Google+ page and it was a lot of fun. We had about 10 participants total and talked a bit about air compressor basics and rivet sets. Be sure to follow us on Google+ to attend future events: http://bit.ly/19apsd4

Here's the recording from the June 2013 session...

Thanks,

Bill--

I was wondering about the bucking bar that the couple was using for the wing riveting. It was a quite large bucking bar. Right after your showed that picture, you started talking about tungsten bars. Would a tungsten bar be appropriate for back riveting the skins instead of the bucking bar with the large flat round head?

I have a tungsten bar, which is the reason I ask.

Thanks
ken

Sorry Ken for the lack of clarity there. I had one of the "Back Riveting Bars" (see links below) on the table but forgot to talk about it directly. The pitfall of being non-scripted I guess. For back riveting with a bar rather than a plate, you want to use the heaviest bar possible and cover a large area of the skin with it. That is why we sell the bar that looks like the giant flush set. It gives plenty of mass so the rivet does not sit at all high, and plenty of surface area so the bar will not make a dent in the material (since it is heavy). For this I would not use the tungsten bar since the surface area is less, but you may find that holding it with the large surface on the skin would work?? Can always try it on some scrap, or on your buddies project.
