Chris, I'm working on a drawing with dimensions and parts list. Should have that uploaded later tonight.

Here's a picture of my empennage sitting on the cradle.

Here is the parts list you will need to build one of these.

If you no longer have access to the F-1208 and F-1210 frames, these drawings should approximate the curves and dimensions to give a fairly good fit.

Default Thanks

Your empennage looks great Adam and thanks for the plans. My son and I have been in the process for just about a year (not as fast as we would like) and are wrapping up the first kit in the next week or so.

Wing kit came last week and we got it unpacked and inventoried. We are running out of room in the heated part of our hangar and I was getting worried about what I would do with my empennage. Your cradle solution will work perfectly.

Thanks again.

Bringing up a really old thread here but I'm searching for cradle ideas for building the tailcone and fuse. I came across this old thread with a bunch of dead links to photos.

I'm wondering if there is anyone on the forum that recalls this thread and built similar, or knows where these pics may have been moved to?

Randy Pflanzer built a beautiful RV-12 and also made a cool-looking tailcone cradle. Here is a link to a page on his website that shows the cradle:

Thanks for the link. I think I may have seen one photo of Randy's in a thread here, but hadn't made my way to the thread to see a few more pictures.

I'll probably end up doing something very similar to this. The only problem is that I look at it and it's nice enough that I start getting a few other ideas to add that end up overcomplicating things. Part of me was hoping that other one I asked about would give me an easier way out!

It looks like it worked out well, including the revision you made later to support the aft end. Would you do it the same way if you were building again?

I took a simple approach. I built a rolling table for the tail cone and adjusted the height to line just a hair below the rear bulkhead of the fuselage so I could roll the tail cone up to the fuselage. I was able to completely attach the tail cone solo by this method. Then I built a short table to sit on top of the tail cone table that will similarly align the stabilator with the tail cone. Have not attached the stabilator yet by hoping for similar results as with the tail cone.
