Default Selling an Airplane

Since many of us will have to deal with selling an aircraft at some time, from those that have gone before, what's the general paperwork package that needs to be completed and process? I assume there's a general sales agreement, the EAA liability document, and I'd think the FAA is in there as well.

Bill Of Sale form FAA 8050-2

Have to use an original form, not a copy.

Very easy process.

What Mike said.

I also did a hand written sales agreement, signed by the buyer and myself.

Easy process.

I take it that the FSDO has the 8050-2?

Yes. If you are an AOPA member, they will send you a couple.

Default Check

your local airport. Many of them carry not only the bill of sale but the registration form for the buyer.

Many local FBOs keep copies of the 8050-1 multi-part registration and 8050-2 bill of sale forms. You can also download the 8050-2 as a PDF from the FAA website. http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/m...m/ac8050-2.pdf

The 8050-1 is not downloadable, since it's a multi-layer form with carbon paper in between the sheets.

You might also want to check into your state laws about any sales/use tax forms that will be necessary. For example here in Texas, if it's a personal sale, and the seller holds no state sales tax permit, and otherwise qualifies as an "occasional sale" then the buyer, if also in Texas, enjoys the exemption of not getting hit for sales tax But he needs to get the seller to fill out a "Statement of Occasional Sale" form to keep in case the state comes looking for tax money.

Yes, sorry. I confused the -1 & -2. The 8050-1 (registration)is the one AOPA sent.

Default Photos for selling..

Just for giggles, I tried using Photosynth as a medium for displaying an aircraft tour. You have to have some decent overlap wtih the photos to achieve "synthiness" but overall, it seems to have worked out well. This makes an intersting display for your aircraft (OK, this isn't an RV, but just imagine an RV here ).

Here's the external:

And the cockpit:

Well, say it isn't so... hopefully you're not trying to sell your -7... that'd be a sad day..
