Default NC 2013 Formation Clinic, May 17-19 - Sign up information

This could be YOU!

A Yahoo group has been established to collect and disseminate information for the NC 2013 Formation Clinic at the Stanly County, NC airport (KVUJ) on the weekend of 17-19 May 2013.

Click HERE to join the group and sign up to attend the clinic.

IMPORTANT: You must access the DATABASE section of this group and ADD A RECORD with the requested information in order to sign up for the clinic.

Participating pilots should have excellent stick and rudder skills. This clinic is only for RV aircraft. Sorry, no RV-10?s, however we may consider including RV-12?s if at least four RV-12 pilots sign up. We will not mix RV-12?s with other models. All aircraft must be in excellent condition. Beginner's aircraft must have dual controls (throttle, stick and rudder), intercom, and PTT in both positions. No vernier throttles allowed! In addition to the normal paperwork required of all aircraft (registration, airworthiness certificate, weight & balance), pilot certificate and current medical, you will need to bring proof of liability insurance. We will arrange for competitive rates at a hotel in nearby Albemarle, NC and will provide contact information soon. We will provide dinner on Friday evening, and lunch on Saturday. Further detailed information will be posted to this group as it is available.

Those with prior formation experience will be challenged at a level commensurate with your level of experience. Experienced pilots who wish to take a check ride to earn an FFI Wingman or Flight Lead card must secure a recommendation for the check ride prior to the clinic and request a check ride not later than May 1st.

Regardless of your level of formation expertise, you will find the clinic to be a challenging, rewarding and fun experience.

Default Formation clinic

Been wanting to attend one of these for a while but the timing never works out. Might be able to make this one but have a few questions if anyone out there can help. I have an RV-4 with an IO-360 and CS prop with all the back seat requirements except rudder pedals. I actually took them out because they were causing more problems from the back seaters than they were worth. Especially from non pilots. From a safety standpoint I wasn't comfortable with rudder pedals in a taildragger in the cramped space in the back of the -4. Is this an absolute requirement? If not is it waiveable? I have a lot of formation experience in the military and in my RV-4. I'm not keen on changing anything.

Also, will attendees have a chance to get the FAST card upon completion? Flight lead and wing?

Thanks,
Oly

Oly,

Rear seat rudder pedals are only required of beginner pilots. We issue FFI cards and you may be ready for a wingman check ride at the clinic. Doubt if we can get you a flight lead card.

Is an FFI card the same as a FAST card?

Thanks!

They serve the same function, just issued by different organizations. Both sanction and approved programs by the FAA and recognized formations cards for waivered airspace.

Default RV-12 throttle is OK.

I am told by my resident RV-12 expert that the stock throttle works just fine for formation flying. No modifications required.

I'm anxious to get a contingent of RV-12 pilots to participate. We just did a show at the Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring. Four young pilots put on a very nice formation display in their light sport airplanes. No reason you RV-12 pilots have to miss out on the fun.

Default Clinic limited to 60 pilots

We now have 49 members on the clinic forum. We will limit participation to 60 pilots, so you still have a little time to make the cut. Go HERE to join the clinic forum and once your membership is approved go to the DATABASE and sign up for the clinic. (We really need a couple more RV-12 participants.)
