Default Tsam and the Val do Wings Over Houston

Foiled by Friday?s low weather that kept Louise from getting out of College Station in time to make LOE, Tsam took it upon herself to round up the Val and head over to the Wings Over Houston Airshow at Ellington Field. That young girl just likes to get out in public and show off, and boy, did folks take lots of pictures! We let the two airplanes preen by themselves (under the watchful eyes of EAA Chapter 12 members) on Saturday, and we were there all day Sunday to answer questions (see the thread on ?questions non-builders ask? ? they?re pretty much all there?) and enjoy a beautiful sunny and comfortable day with the two of them. An awful large number of Houstonians showed up for the event, and Chapter 12 did a great job showing the flag for the Experimental world with the two RV?s, a T-Craft LSA, Long-EZE, and a couple of Gyrocopters.

Tsam looked to be on the tail of this monster, and frankly, I think she could have taken it if we?d let her loose.

Of course, ?Mom and Dad? had to spend a little time looking around for a new project, and happened to run across some guys in green flight suits that were trying to sell us on the merits of their bird. The design dates back a few decades, so it is pretty much tried and true, but we were a little worried about the fuel burn with that fist full of (8) throttles. We were assured that parts are still readily available, fuel can often be obtained ?on the fly?, and that if we bought one in 1950?s dollars, acquisition costs are quite reasonable.

We?re not sure that we could fit it into the EAB category, but it does come nuclear-weapon ready?. That seemed to light up Louise?s eyes ? or maybe that was the fact she was sitting on a mission ready (not hot) ejection seat!

We were proud to show the Van?s flag for the weekend, and I think we introduced a lot of pilots to the fact that they CAN build their own airplane as an alternative to the high cost of ownership of going certified. The guys in the green suits? Oh yeah?.they all wanted one!

Apparently the "Garmin" flag too.

The information that I post is just that; information and my own personal experiences. You need to weight out the pros and cons and make up your own mind/decisions. The pictures posted may not show the final stage or configuration. Build at your own risk.

Default Louise You Missed One

Paul has the right technique but Louise misses a few. We used to joke and say everyone grab a throttle we are going around. With eight throttles I have seen many new B-52 pilots miss either number one or eight when adding power (depends upon what seat they were in). With guests on board we'd play a joke on them and say the mighty BUFF has voice command auto throttles. What really would happen was either of the two Navs downstairs would grab the throttle cables running over their heads and pull/push to make the lever move when we "command" the throttle to move. Oh **** that's a secret...LOL http://www.vansairforce.com/communit...lies/smile.gif
