Default F705 Hole

I am think about drilling a 1/2 to 3/4 inch hole through the F705 spar for a wire pass through. The holes (one each side) would be the bottom outboard portion on each side. Any thoughts before I make a mistake ?

Memory refresh needed: what's the F705?

I'm not an engineer & can't afford Holiday Inns, but rumor has it that the best place to drill a load carrying beam is near the middle.

705 is the bulkhead behind the seats. I think the problem there -- if I recall correctly -- is there are two doublers in the spar there for the rear wing attach point, isn't there? Might want to call Van's directly on this one.

Default F-705B

Gents,
What were the results of this? Did Van's caution against this? Seems to me the F-705B center section bar provides foundation for the two wing angle-of-incidence bolts, but not weight-bearing structure for the wing spars.

I think drilling through the bar would be a horrible idea. They are there for a reason. You could drill a hole above the bar. Don't know what effect it would have structurally, but surely less than drilling through the bar.

Default Drilling location

There are two 5/8ths holes in the plans that do not go through the F-705B center bar. I don't believe it would be in your best interest to drill through the bar to get a third hole.

Maybe a location above the bar in between the baggage ribs, or above the location where the flap bearing block bolts to f-705?
