Default RV-6 Forced Landing (engine problem)

An RV6 went down in Idaho near Marsing departing ID40 due to an apparent engine problem. Both occupants walked away:

Glad everyone came out ok. It'll be interesting to learn what happened so it can be prevented from us up-comers!

Glad to see them walk away with no major injuries. It is sad however to see your plane that you built in such shape, still all can be replaced but a good health, so I am glad they are OK.

That's an RV-7A...and by the N-number the faa registry says it's registered to Terry Davison. I'm so glad they're both OK. Nice looking airplane, too.

One comment on the media reporting...it makes me roll my eyes when they have to put in their opinion about some guy stating he wouldn't fly in an airplane built by someone else. Funny...aren't they ALL built by someone else (except yours)??

It wasn't the media opinion apparently it was Mr. Alexander's statement:

"Alexander also happens to be an F-15 mechanic. He said he couldn't comment on the safety of experimental aircraft. However, he did say he'd trust something that he put together himself, but not something someone else put together."

Just glad they are OK

Looking at the picture of the accident, kudos to the pilot for setting her down without flipping her on the back side if it is indeed a 7A.

Right...not to get off topic from the original post, but my point is that the media chose to include that bit of opinion in their report. It skews the facts. One guy's opinion on whether or not a homebuilt is safe isn't relevant to anything, but it does give the perception to the less informed that homebuilts are not safe.

Good to hear they walked away without any serious injuries.

BTW - it's interesting the paper quoted all of Mr Alexanders other comments but not that last one. That tells me he may have said something different and the reporter chose to swizzle it a bit.

At least I didn't see a "and no flight plan was filed".... lol

Glad to hear they made it out and they did make a good point about the fact that it had a full harness system. Sometimes when I fly in my Archer, I think about the fact that my flimsy shoulder/lap belt will probably not do much if I have to put it down somewhere...

You will in the NTSB report.

What is the N number?

I also see less than smooth terrain in the vicinity. It appears that the aircraft damage is relatively minimal.
