New to this what is the year time limit to get the repairman's cert.
Is this from the time you get the DAR inspection to the time you apply for the certificate form the feds?
I think he's referring to the condition inspection coming due at 12 months and since he wouldn't be able to do it, the plane would be grounded until he got his Repairmans Certificate. I think I would be a little put out myself if I had to pay someone to do my condition inspection.

Default There is no time limit.....

on obtaining the repairman certificate. However, if you don't get it within a year from the original sign off, then you will not be eligible to sign off that first annual condition inspection.

I recommend that the applicant apply for the certificate very soon after the aircraft certification.

Different FSDOs handle this differently. Their job is to verify that you have been involved in the build enough to competently accomplish the condition inspection.

When I sign off an aircraft, I issue a "letter of recommendation" stating that the applicant has shown sufficient data to qualify for the certificate. Most FSDOs accept my letter and issue the certificate. They don't have to, but most do.

BTW, even though the DAR has no authority to issue the certificate, he can help with the application and recommendation.

Default Atl FSDO

Atlanta FSDO would not accept my letters of recommendation for Repairman certs. They asked me to stop supplying them.

I had Mel's Letter of recommendation at the LBB office, nothing to it. FAA were very nice and enjoyed looking at my builders log. Inspector was the same I deal with when he inspects our Air Tractors, that might have helped, who knows.

Default The nuclear option

[quote=carl nank;511228]I have done a search and not found a situation like this issue with FSDO.

If you have no success with the "nice guy" approach then write your congressman. You'll get a very timely response from the FAA. However make darn sure you've got all "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed. A few around my area have had to stoop to this option.

I took my letter to several DAR seminars and every ASI I showed it to really liked it. I've issued it all around the country and never had a complaint.
