ICom used to make a non-TSO'ed comm radio, the IC-A200, that cost about $100 less than the TSO'ed version and was a very good radio. There are lots of folks who think the older A200 was a better performing radio than the new A210 model that replaced it.

Default non certified radio

I have a non-certified comm radio in my plane (Flight Line 760 - about $600).

It works great and is easy to use.

Some people think certified stuff is "better" and therefore, spend more money.

Whatever gives you a "warm fuzzy feeling"

The original A-210 was not TSO'd. The ICOM web site current brochure just says "TSO version pending".

Don't mix up TSO - which is not needed for us - and FCC certified - which is needed for every aircraft band transmitter.
