Hello James,

Thanks for contacting AOPA's Pilot Information Center! We appreciate the suggestion. AOPA has many ways of generating revenue to help advocate for General Aviation. As stated before, we are not taking sides, and not engaging in any actions regarding this. Flight Prep does advertise with us. We certainly value your opinion but we cannot cease this agreement for simply the reasons mentioned. Thank you for writing and stay tuned for updates! Tailwinds,

If nothing else, AOPA should not accept advertising from this company.

Hello James,

Thanks for contacting AOPA's Pilot Information Center! We appreciate your concerns, and we are very aware of the situation. We have watched this situation develop from the start and at this time we are not responding to the communications to AOPA from Flight Prep. Concerning advocacy for the other for-profit entities that FlightPrep has engaged, we are unable to assist them. We do not engage in the advocacy of private business and we cannot spend membership dollars to help assist private businesses make money. We will continue to report on the situation and I will certainly pass your information along to our executives for their consideration.

Tailwinds,

Patrick Smith, Aviation Technical Specialist > AOPA Government Affairs -- Pilot Information Center > Tel: 800.872.2672 or 301.695.2000

To Whom it may concern,
I'm sure that AOPA is aware of the recent actions by Flightprep.com to enforce alleged patent infringement upon makers of small flight planning companies. The latest casualty is Navmonster.com, which has been forced to stop offering flightplanning services. This is severely impacting the safety of general aviation and needs to be addressed.
Best Regards,

Jim, do you mind if I copy this post to another board?

Default Donated!

I've just donated $50 to Runwayfinder. I challenge everyone on VAF who is as upset as me by FP actions to donate. With as many hits the subject has had on here, if everybody would donate just a dollar, Dave would have a great start on a defense fund. C'mon gang!

$50 donated. I don't use RunwayFinder, but I despise what FlightPrep is doing. I'll support anyone who fights them, and they'll never see another penny of my money.

Thanks all for the donations. I'll keep updating with progress. This last week was thankfully relatively quiet due to the holidays. I expect things to heat up this week.

Default Here is $25 more

Dave,
Here is $25 more to help you fight the cause. I love RF and Navmonster.com and flying will not be the same or as safe until both sites are back up and running. I hate people that extort money from honest, hardworking individuals. Flightstep STEPPED into a pile then did not wanna disturb. The TEA Party would have been a better group to take on then Aviators in love with their Fav internet sites.

Default Emily Litella

I ran into Emily Litella today and asked her opinion of this whole mess ...

"What's all this fuss about Runaway Finders needing a defense fund? Who would want to sue people who find runaways anyway? I think it's disgraceful that greedy lawyers would try to make money off people doing the right thing in tracking down these poor, lost young people whose faces are on milk cartons ..."

I hated to interrupt her, but she was getting pretty wound up, so I explained that it wasn't about finding runaways.

"Oh ... never mind."

(and if that doesn't ring any bells, you're too young to be building an airplane!)

I had her confused with Rosanne Rosannadanna.
