Default RV-12 on floats!

I know this will bring up a lot of opinions but how about a 12 on Zenith aluminum floats? I know this will bring a lot of comments.

The RV-12 on floats would fly fine, probably although the Ercoupe did not work out on floats, like all low wing aircraft on floats it would have docking issues.

Best regards,
Vern

Are the 12's landing speeds low enough for safe float operation?

Talking I would think so!

Approach speed is 50-55kts. So thats plenty slow. See the POH here on Vans web Site.

With the right engineering it should work. You woud have to use light composite floats. There is already a RV on Floats, check out this web site for pics and info:

Default Baumann 1500A Amphibious Floats

Baumann 1500A Amphibious Floats are designed for the light sport market. We sell these for the Carbon Cub.

Other than docking a low wing aircraft just looks better on floats than a high wing. I say build it.

I just put my RV9 on a set of Baumann 2100 straight floats. Approach speed is in area of 65MPH and over the fence ( shore line) at 55. glad the 180 hp was installed, even if contrary to Van's preference. Picture of it is on www.flickr.com/photos/bob_butcher/5989426778 Alaska cool density makes for good performance.
