Default Wet OSH alt field option

Galt Airport 10C is due south of OSH and about 30-40mins flight time.

Great field, lots of room, cheap fuel $3.69? during OSH, historic old field and a camp ground if you have gear. Local EAA chapter on field is cooking I think.

Only for the hardy for overnight since there are no hotels close. You might get a hotel to pick you up though? I'd call the field or the hotel on that one.

Dont think they have an airport car.

I have a hangar there but no plane anymore.

Restaurants are a haul but they deliver to the field!

Hope it dries up at OSH soon it's wet here too but Galt has lots of pavement for parking.

Ask for Justin the MGR, he almost never leaves, and sign the log book as VAF if you think about it.

I've been trying to get them to do more around OSH since they are so close yet just far enough from ORD airspace or the traffic that last 30-40.

Good place to stop, think, review make a pit stop and finish the last leg or fuel up cheap on the way home.

I love the place and I'm just a renter. Rosie thought it was one of the coolest little airports he ever saw when he came. They even wrote a book about it.

Last year the EAA Museum was featuring photos taken of the place.

Give it a try if you need to, if I can make it out I might see some of you.

Fly safe and keep this one in that back up plan. Trust me on this one.

It might not be there a few years from now if home building comes back so don't let it be like Meigs and fly over it but never stop.

I never got to Meigs and I live 30 miles from where it was so I know.

Fly safe all.

Default Sunday Update, Part 3

Osh has been handling arrivals...but both Oshkosh and Fond du Lac are now closed to new arrrivals (see blogspot link above).

Saw Danny King and Chris Pratt along with our crew from Lees Summit. One plane on dry(er) ground next to the other sinking in a bit...

Many RVs on the field now. Weather is still clear and sunny.

Default I'm here...

Got in just fine. Easy approach - not crowded at all since they were not letting non-show planes land.

At the dorms now getting settled in. Looking forward to that first glass of Spotted Cow down the street at Kelly's.

More later...must drink beer now.

Hi ya'll,

I too arrived this morning at 8:40 (Thank you Jeff and others who posted condition reports). Very few people arriving then and they led my straight to homebuilt camping. The ground is wet but really not bad at all now (in HBC).

My tent is near the end of row 309 (by the ice shed) - it has good wifi coverage and free beer for any VAF members. ;-) Look for the black/white checker tail - N72KH.

Yay!

Default OSH Closed for today

By the time I got to Ripon (about 3PM), both OSH and FDL were closed to ALL arrivals. So like everyone else, I diverted to ATW. And let me tell you, it was the wild west getting in there. Everytime the tower controller took a breath, two or three people were stepping on each other to get a word in.

I found myself on short final with no clearance and no opportunity to get a clearance. So one 360 got the controllers attention. But he gave me a LAHSO clearance which required another 360 to slow down for the short field.

So they sent us all out to the back 40 for parking. Miles from the FBO. Took about an hour for them to get a bus out to us. Finally on the shuttle to OSH.

No complaints. Everyone's taking it in stride. And the FBO is peddling as fast as they can to accommodate.

Vlad, I am soooo jealous!!

Find me a -6A or low priced -7A for sale and post lots of pics. I fear the plane of my dreams (in Washington) has eluded me. Now I have to find another!!!

Kermit and I arrived at 11am and were tied down by 11:30. Field was closed to Gen Av (no parking around 09-27) unless hard parking reservation was secured. Very little parking in the normal homebuilt parking areas, many planes parked along the taxi ways.

RV parking is generally good since the two fields are amoung the highest on the field, although still spotted with low wet areas. We managed to get on the first row of the second (westerly) RV lot. Arrivals seemed very spotty throughout the afternoon. Falcon flight was due in the pm, but had not arrived by 5pm as I left.

Stopped by Van's tent and visited with Joe. General area around the tent is wet with mud stained grass. They are trying to lay down cardboard in the tent. Other vendors were working hard with some wood mulch being laid down. The area is drying rapidly in the sun...hopefully little rain for the rest of the week.

Boy, its good to get back to OSH after missing last year due to major foot operation. I've been coming since '71 and may just come a week early next year...

Well, have to finish this beer in the Reeve's common and move on down to Kelly's to see if Doug is still there...
