Default narrow cylinders on wide deck

I am rebuildind a O-320 wide deck for my RV and the cylinders need to be rebuilt, my neighbor has a set of narrow deck chrome cylinders with 50 hrs on them.
He thinks that I can use his narrow deck cylinders on the wide deck case if I use the "plates" that come with them.
I don't know enough about this to be able to make an intelligent decision.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bob

Narrow Deck and Wide Deck Cylinders are NOT interchangable.
