That happened to me and I ended up with a new unit!
Couldn't be happier with Garmin's support of their product.
That's been my experience as well, don't feel too bad about the discontinuation of the product, a month after I fired up my GNS-480, it was discontinued, trust me, we owners of that unit invested a tad more dollars than a 396. That said I think most of us wouldn't give'm up for nothing and Garmin has been very helpful to me...Never has been the unit, just a short between the headsets of the operator...Me

Agree with the Brian and the rest. I have been using Garmin's for over 15 years, from the 55 to the 496 with over 7000 hours on them. Very simple to run and dependable. Call Garmin, they will fix it. As Rick said, when I have a problem, it is normaly between the stick and helmet..which is me.

Default 396

YOUR INTERNAL BATT. IS WEAK AND NEEDS REPLACED. USUALLY REQUIRES A RETURN TO THE FACTORY.

Default How to replace the battery

This is a "How to replace the battery in a Garmin 276" which I understand is the marine version of the X96 Garmin series.
It might void the guaranty.
