Default Baggage Tie downs

After looking at Vans quick disconnect baggage tie downs and getting sticker shock ($25.00 each), I did a net search and found a supplier that has similar tiedowns for $7.95 each.
I just got them in and they look great. They come anodized in multiple colors and I am sure your baggage floor will rip up before they break. Here is the website if anyone is interested.

Not positive yet. I am thinking of using rivnuts like Van supplies for his and get them as close to a rib or bulkhead as possible. May need to use a doubler plate due to the thin floor and side panel thickness.

Default just one approach

I mounted one in the center at the rear on the cover plate that goes over the elevator rod channel, puts it between the two support ribs and is easy to install. I put 2 others on the vertical members by the side of the seat backs, again easy to install and hidden by the seats.

Thumbs up great find!

Jim,

Nice find! Did you notice the track kits they carry? Two four foot tracks and four tie down rings for $65 bucks. good deal in my book. I'm thinking of mounting a couple of tracks on the floor and maybe even the walls of the baggage area.

I just noticed they are located just a few miles from my office! I think I'm going to go check them out in person.

Default Here's another option (cost less)

Credit for this needs to go to David McNeil who showed me the tip. Simple piece of piano hinge, cut, drilled and rivet4ed to baggage area, Folds nearly flush and can be hidden under carpet when not in use:

Jim,

I bought a handful of those three weeks ago to use in my baggage compartment.

It is best if you plan to install these with #10 plate nuts while building but if you didn't install them while building, here is what I'm in the process of doing:

Use #10 keyed riv-nuts. Keyed riv-nuts have a small bump on the underside of the top ring. When set, this key helps keep them from spinning. (I bought and tried both, and the non-keyed riv-nuts spin in the hole much easier than the keyed ones but even the keyed riv-nuts will spin.)

The other trick I did was to drill a dimple in the bottom of each base but not all the way through, centered between the two holes. The idea is that by putting the dimple over an existing rivet in the baggage compartment, you can use the two holes in the base as your drill guide.

Once the 1/4" holes are drilled, it is a simple matter to install the riv-nuts and screw the bases down.

I would also recommend installing the riv-nuts through both the floor and rib flange for extra strength.

Bruce,

Way back when I bought a set of the tracks to install in my -9 and never used them because of the weight. The SbS baggage compartment is small enough you can get away with just for tie-downs.

BTW, these things are designed for securing motorcycles and they are beefy.
