Default four years down, four to go

I am almost four years into my RV 8 build. My first full size aircraft (several years in radio control). Hung the engine a couple of months ago and hope to finish in the next 18 months (to four years).

I have enjoyed just about every aspect of building so far. I have learned all kinds of new skills. I cannot imagine that this will be my last airplane. The whole process is just so doggone interesting. Great psychotherapy. There is the comraderie of the online and homebuilding movement and the friendships I have developed with helpers and other builders.

At times I find myself almost driven to finish some part of the project. Other times, I just sit back and think for a couple of days about how to accomplish something. I have trashed a lot of pieces and started over. Made a few modifications to the standard design (James Cowl, Grove gear). All in all, this has really been a highlight of my life.

So, this RV is my first homebuilt, but I am quite sure it will not be the last.

Thumbs up First build. Last? Who knows?

The RV-8 is my first build. I'm just over two years in and not making a whole lot of progress right now. I'm in no rush. I don't want to take on finance, so money is what makes or breaks my progress. Mind you, I have made many modifications to the base design, some small and 'easy' and others quite significant. I reckon I have a good couple of hundred hours in mods so far! If I were to do another one no way would I do all the mods, but this particular plane is to be mine (as in, not intended for sale) and so I want it exactly to the picture in my mind's eye.

Would I do it again? Maybe, not sure. I have to admit, I have a hankering to build a helicopter and I like the look of the Rotorway A600 Talon. In fact, when deciding what to build it was a throw down between an RV and a Rotorway. The RV won based purely on end-use practicality (higher, faster, cheaper, carries more, further, etc) but I still have my heart in that helicopter...

This is our first build, Deffinetly not the cheapest airplane we have ever owened "of course we have only owened 1" but it is a lot of fun to build, the build manual does a good job of not leading you down a dark tunnel, and there is a lot of support, get a build partner too, maybe not your spouse. This is our project
Rv 10

Good luck
PS these airplane are only as expensive as you make them,
