Bob, I live about 15 miles southwest of French Lick and I do not know of any Larry Bird museum, but one of Larry?s home has been turn into a Bed and Breakfast by the new owner. It?s been in the local paper court news over using Larry?s name with the Bed and Breakfast. The Casino has saved the Old Fench Lick Hotel, and also the Great West Baden Springs Resort.

Not that I saw, but the Indiana Railroad Museum is right there at the French Lick Hotel. I didn't notice it until we were on the way back to the airport, alas. I would have liked to have checked it out.

Ramp Fees
The last time I was at FRH, the attendant mentioned that the city was going to start charging a landing fee for anyone not buying fuel. Would be a shame if they did, because this is a short hop for me and the breakfast buffet is a good spread.
Did they charge anything for tie down or landing?

Nope, no charge at all. I did buy fuel since it was only $4.80, but that was on the way out. There was no mention of a landing fee at all.

Dave, does Google Earth overlay the sectionals and airspace? How'd you get the .kml file uploaded?

Icky weather
Dave,
I had my PPL checkride on Saturday in Cincinnati. Icky perfectly describes the weather. Low clouds, hazy (the nice weather was "up ahead somewhere"), with just enough visibility to be safe and legal. After the DPE and I waited an additional three hours (thanks George) we got to fly. The DPE made the comment "not a nice day for a checkride". I said "yeah - poor visibility - can't enjoy the scenery". He came back with "no - not bumpy enough". LOL

I was afraid someone was going to ask that. I'm not sure I can remember how I finally got it to work, but I started by downloading the .kml file from here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Overlay-Secti...n-Google-Earth
Look for the 'Sectional Data Download' link - you don't want the 'VFR Sectional Chart' link under the Google Ads header. It's in a bigger font, and it took me an embarrassingly long time to find the correct link since that one looked so prominent.
Once I had the .kml downloaded, I did File | Open from inside Google Earth and opened AeroCharts_nl.kml I did a View | Sidebar, and in the Temporary Places section, clicked next to Aero_Charts. You then expand the sectionals item and select the chart you want. Unfortunately, it seems that you can only have one overlaid at a time. To get the 3D airspace, you just expand the 3D Airspace item and turn on the one you want (labels or no labels).
I already had the GPS track imported before doing all of this, by the way.
