Bader Field - Atlantic City??

I'm not sure if that is how you spell it, but I was very disappointed to see that the field is closed down now!

I used to skydive a lot and I got to do a demo into the beach in front of one of the Trump casinos a while back. Me and my buddy flew out from West Jersey in a small Cessna and staged at Bader Field. What a great airport! It's right behind the hotels, about 3/4 mile from the beach. I've been looking forward to a cross country down there when I finish my PP training in the Spring.

Anyway, I was down there this week and the airport had big X's on the runways. What a shame!!! That is about as close to a vacation destination as you can get in a GA airplane around here (well, if you consider AC a vacation destination). I just thought it would be a cool 100 mile trip for me.

Anyone else been there??

Yep the azz wipes closed it last year. I use to go there once a week......

I have flown into Bader Field many times over the years. I live In Virginia Beach and my friends and I made it a frequent destination. I am very sad that it closed. From my understanding it has been shut down for a while now.

If I remember, it was kind of a ghost-town when we did the demo there. And that was around 1998. Real shame though. Nothing else there except marsh and a ball field.

Any other similar destinations in our area??

Ocean City (26N) isn't bad. There's a nice cafe on the field and you can walk to the beach from the airport. If you go down to Cape May (WWD), you can get a cab into Cape May itself where you have your pick of places to eat.

Narrative:
The CitationJet departed Burlington (BTV) around 14:45 on a routine flight to Atlantic City (AIY). The pilot first made a low pass down runway 29 and then return to land on runway 11. After touchdown the airplane failed to stop and overran the runway and into the Intercoastal Waterway. The occupants were rescued by a boat.
According to the Cessna 525A Landing Distance Chart, an airplane with a landing weight of 11,000 pounds required 2,930 feet of landing distance, in a no wind situation. With a 10 knot tailwind, which was the approx wind at the time of the accident, the airplane required 3,500 feet of landing distance. Runway 11 at Bader Field is a 2,948 foot-long, 100 foot-wide, asphalt runway. Bader Field is normally closed to jet traffic.

PROBABLE CAUSE: "The pilot's improper decision to plan a flight to a runway of insufficient length, his improper in-flight decision to land on that inadequate runway with a tailwind, and his failure to obtain the proper touchdown point. A factor in the accident was the tailwind condition."
