Default Builder Number

I have made an offer for a second hand RV-10 empennage kit that the current owner has not started building. The offer has been accepted but not delivered. My question is how do you obtain a builder number? Is that something that Van's normally issues? Does the number stay with the kit if it is sold? Are there any pitfalls associated with buying second hand. I looked on Vans web site but do not see info on a builder number.

Yes. Van's issues it with the kit.

Yes, the number stays with the kit.

You need to contact the seller, make sure he includes the original builder number certificate with the tail kit.

Then you contact Vans, and they will change the records to reflect you are now the owner of the number.

I have been on both ends of this type of transaction, it is no big deal.

Good luck.
